She works on personally handmade cracked linen canvases, seeking universal themes of beauty, nature, and peace in and through the world. Her life-long love of horticulture brought her to focus on botanical subjects, diving into what she calls the architecture of nature. Roberta paints primarily in acrylics and watercolors and then carves the pieces, etching lines into the plaster. Using her same cracked linen materials, her most recent work is an exploration of these forms and expresses a feeling of elemental power. One of the influences that fuel my desire to create is having the ability to bring this beauty, this vision, to almost any size canvas. There is a certain balance in the feeling of the piece that works. To me, in a world that seems to be devolving into ugliness and divisiveness there is a deep value in calling attention to the inherent beauty of the structure and balance of nature. Here, Townley dedicated himself to studying art, art history, and delving into the landscapes he saw that fueled Townley’s passion for environmentalism. Back to his hometown in San Clemente, it was obvious that the planet was changing for the worse; now, surfing seasons were in 80 to 90-degree weather and feeling cool coastal air meant running the air conditioning the whole day. Townley’s oil paintings started to feature dark skies, on a hopeful horizon, and rich, potent landscapes designed with globs of oil. For Townley, leaving the corporate world, a “perfect” job by societies standards, for 104 was an emotional journey.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0008/0219/3473/products/townleyIMG_2786_22e8bac5-9dd2-4c85-8fa5-b2f39579c869.jpg?v=1658444939
twentyeight-by-joshua-burbank-mixed-media-on-vintage-pressed-wood-tray
"TwentyEight" by Joshua Burbank, Mixed Media on Vintage Pressed Wood Tray

DETAILS:

13” x 17”

Mixed Media on Vintage Pressed Wood Tray

Original Art Work

2012

ABOUT THE ARTIST:

Joshua Burbank

Joshua Burbank was born in Los Angeles in 1968.
